Mr. Rasmussen was one of several residents at the Dec. 5 council meeting to personally thank town crewmen for their efforts "above and beyond" their normal responsibilities.
Honorees included Dave Morgan (Electric), Jim Railey (Building Inspector), Frank Bonner (Street Department), Enesi "Ernie" Vaetoe and Doug Hale (Water & Sewer), and Ken Cox (Water and Storm Drain Division).
Fortunately for the town’s 6,000+ residents, the town’s Public Works crewmen quickly responded to alleviate much of the damage caused by that “curve ball” weather this past November. A large crowd of Town residents turned out that night for the recognition.
Steilacoom citizens also complimented Town Administrator Paul Loveless, Public Works Director Jeff Lincoln, and Receptionist Brenda Houchin for their prompt response to citizens’ concerns during recent storms. Kudos also were extended to the Public Safety Department.
Saying that the "town wouldn’t run as smoothly as it does," residents Beau Beauchamp, Kevin Callanan, Scott Babbitt and Lisa Breittinger each voiced their appreciation for the crew’s extra efforts during the recent power outage and heavy rains.
"I’m happy to be able to say how much we appreciate the Public Works crew and the Public Safety officers," said Callanan.
“Thanks for all they have done for me and my family over the years.”
“It’s the first time there has been (in his recollection) any type of public recognition for the crew members’ service,” added an appreciative Beauchamp, who has lived in town for 28 years.
A large “thank you” card, signed by citizens who attended the meeting, was presented to the employees, who also received a standing ovation.
Earlier that day Mr. & Mrs. Rasmussen delivered a large box of donuts as a “thank you” treat for Public Works employees.
