In response to the Blue Star article dated November 10th.
A Blue Star Memorial was dedicated on Hwy 99 circa 1950’s, the sign has since been removed but the part of the foundation of the marker is still there located about 200 ft. south of the railroad bridge. Near where the proposed Sound Transit Station is to be built, it would only be fitting to have the memorial rededicated there. Members of our committee have already contacted the Washington State Dept of Highways, Historical Dept. about 6 weeks ago and they are inquiring into their archives. Nyanza & Gravelly Lake Dr. triangle is not part of the historical highway and should not be considered for designation.
Mike Filby has been a resident in Lakewood for 55 years and fondly remembers the memorial dedicated to our service members.
