Between late November and mid December, a narrow green belt between Steilacoom Barber Shop and Chambers Bay Realty becomes a mini forest.
That’s where Boy Scout Troop 71 sets up its annual Christmas tree lot. Customers visit the site, selecting from among the Noble and Douglas fir inventory. The trees and Douglas firs are fresh cut just before the lot opens, and are replenished about mid-way through the selling season. The scouts sell about 250 trees annually, as well as wreaths to regular Steilacoom customers, according to Scoutmaster Art Rebillion.
The Steilacoom Tree lot operates between Nov. 29 and Dec. 17. Lot hours are 4-7 p.m. on M-F, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. on Saturdays and1-7 p.m. on Sundays.
After the holiday, the Scouts participate in the town’s Tree Recyling program, held at the Public Works site on Roe St. The 2007 Recycling takes place between 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Jan. 6-7. A $3 donation is requested.
For an additional $3, Scouts will pick up your tree and take it to the Recycling site. All proceeds benefit local scouting programs. Please phone Scoutmaster Rebillion at 584-2576 for more information.
