Ray Kurtz and KC Madsen have been named teachers of the month (October) by Lakewood Rotary.
Ray Kurtz & Lakes High School Math Teacher
Ray was nominated as the “outstanding educator” of the month by a parent of one of his students.
Ray has been at Clover Park School District for ten years and has always tried to teach math to the individual’s level of understanding so that they can succeed in math and relate it to their everyday lives.
Ray spends many extra hours helping his students, before and after class. He truly believes that everyone can succeed if just given the chance. His sense of humor serves both the students and staff at Lakes showing that math can be fun.
Ray’s willingness to be flexible in his teaching methods, devotion to the students and understanding of the fear most students have for mathematics and his ability to show students that they can succeed makes for a winning combination for both students and Lakes High School.
KC Madsen & Pioneer Middle School Teacher
KC was nominated by the Pioneer Middle School Principal as the “outstanding educator” of the month.
KC has been at Steilacoom School District for eight years and recently has had to take on a new role, that of “Rover”. He teaches from a cart and holds classes in other teacher’s classrooms when they are not in use. This became necessary due to the rapid increase in Steilacoom students and new buildings that are not yet ready to be occupied.
Working with the other staff at Pioneer, KC has been able to ensure that all his students secure the best education, even if he has to teach in different rooms and cart his office with him.
KC has a positive can-do attitude, spends many hours if extra time working with students and keeps all the paperwork straight without having an office.
KC is truly a man on the go.
