Steilacoom Garden Club judges announced the winners of its 6th annual Scarecrow contest on Oct. 24.
Dr. Tom McAvoy’s scarecrow at 1710 Lafayette St. was “crowned” the winner of the Commercial division, while “Screaming in the Rain” at 903 Lewis Lane was honored as the top residential scarecrow.
“Screaming” leans against a lamppost ala Donald O’Connor, surrounded by a chorus of yellow rain-coated crows!
Although there were lots of scarecrows around town, noted Garden Club member Sue Davidson, “only 10 were registered on the sign-up sheet at the Lafayette Street Kiosk.”
Dr M’s Scarecrow, she continued, “was very showy-just neat. With an upbeat attitude-like you’d feel just after you’d come from the dentist; not before.”
Lisa Woody on Lewis Lane entry “took a lot of work and thought.”
The Garden Club thanks all that participated. “And we hope that more will participate next year. Remember to “sign up” if you want your fall guy/gal to be judged, she added.
