I just received a scam telephone solicitation that I thought your readers should be made aware of. A nice young lady called my business, purporting to be looking for corporate sponsors for the “Woodbrook Middle School Racquetball Team”. I politely declined her request, saying that it was not something that our business engaged in, but wishing her good luck with her effort.
It occurred to me after hanging up the phone that a middle school having a racquetball team was something pretty unusual, so I called Woodbrook to check it out. The secretary there informed me that, no, they do not have a racquetball team, and that furthermore they don’t allow anyone affiliated with the school or its sports teams to do solicitations for support in this manner.
It seems pretty clear to me that the phone call I received was some kind of a scam. Unfortunately, the caller ID said “Unknown Caller”, so there is no way to chase that call back and go after the scammers. But I do want other Lakewood residents and businesses to be aware that someone is going through the phone listings looking to run a scam.
