I do not know the answer to the question posed by another reader about running red lights. But I have observed less running of the light since the City of Lakewood installed the cameras at the intersection of Steilacoom and Phillips Rd. Twice I could have been creamed entering Steilacoom if I had just moved out on the green. Once an 18 wheeler was stopped obscuring my vision of oncoming traffic on my left. The light turned green and from behind the truck came a small car like he was shot out of a cannon, on a red light.
I never move on a green light anymore until I am absolutely certain no one is moving from either side. The same caution should apply to pedistrians and cyclists.
I am sure the cameras do have some impact. I have seen the lights flash just as cars enter the zone on the red. Those camera’s everywhere might just be the answer.
