University Place had its 12th annual festival this past weekend with probably the most ever in attendance. (To see more photos, click here). I understand they had over 100 vendor booths and several food booths as well, with a pretty good variety (which were very busy prior to the main concert at 8 p.m.). Many kids activities were available all day long. A great car show with about 200 cars circled the football field – my favorite of course was the 59 Corvette.
Our booth (University Place Refuse) had a display of all of our toters now available. Among those toters were two full ones; one of plastic bottles (274 total) and one of soda cans (370 total) that we encouraged people stopping by to guess how many were in each. Of the approximately 200 plus entries the youth ruled: 17-year-old Jasmine Crisostomo came the closest on the bottles with a guess of 275 and 11-year-old Dennis Doram guessed 369 on the cans. Both winners, reside in University Place, received gift cards totaling $145 of the University Place businesses: Affairs Caf?©, Forza Coffee, Trader Joe’s, and Blockbuster Video. Congratulations!!
The whole day was topped off with an awesome packed out concert by the Platters (standing room only-there must must have been around 4-5000 people). It was really too bad about the generator stoppage – the only gray spot in an otherwise very sunny day. Then it was great to see all the families gathering on the field to get ready for the fireworks too.
Way to go University Place!! Way to go University Place Parks-Gretchen Hayes. Thanks to all the volunteers you are awesome!!
