The Lakewood Fire Department responded to an apartment fire at 6535 150th St SW at 7:48 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11. Firefighters arrived to find a fully involved apartment fire with heavy fire coming from the lower apartment units. Firefighters executed a transitional attack which means they attacked the fire from the exterior first to make it safer for firefighters to enter the structure. The fire was declared under control at 8:27 a.m. Four engines, one ladder and one medic unit from two jurisdictions who responded to the fire.
No injuries to people were reported as a result of the fire. One cat was killed in the fire. Tenants from six apartment units were displaced after the fire and the American Red Cross was called in to assist these people. The cause of the fire is undetermined and still under investigation. Damages are estimated at $300,000 to the structure and another $60,000 in contents.
