Now that the picnic season is upon us, the City of Lakewood encourages you to reserve shelter space in Lakewood parks for family or business events. Shelters may be reserved by contacting the Parks and Recreation Department at 253-589-2489. Reservation forms are available on-line at www.cityoflakewood.us on the parks page.
Shelters are reserved from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. The smaller shelters at Harry Todd Park, Wards Lake Park, American Lake Park and Springbrook Park rent for $20 per four hour block of time to Lakewood residents or $30 for non-residents for standard small gatherings.
You may rent the shelter for the full day if you wish by paying for both blocks of time. The new large shelter in Fort Steilacoom Park (scheduled to be dedicated June 24 during SummerFEST) will seat 100 guests and may be rented for $80 per time block or $150 for the full day.
A special event in the park for a larger group or one which requires additional staff attention may be arranged at a cost of $150 and the shelter fees are partially included in that fee
If no sign is posted, the shelters may be used on a first-come/first served basis. Citizens using the shelters are asked to clean up the shelter space following their event so it is ready for the next group holding a reservation.
