Pierce County is accepting applications to fill a vacancy on the Pierce County Farm Advisory Commission. The deadline for submitting applications is June 30.
The commission’s 11 members represent the diversity of the agricultural economy and agricultural interests of Pierce County. Commissioners serve four-year terms, and appointments are made by the county executive
and confirmed by the County Council.
The commission serves in an advisory capacity and makes recommendations to the county executive and council on agricultural policies and programs. Meetings are held in the evening on the fourth Monday of the
A recently developed Agriculture Strategic Plan outlines actions that could make the local agricultural industry more competitive. Strategies include a purchase/transfer of development rights program, public outreach and education efforts, and the creation of a food policy program. The commission will play a significant role in implementing the desired strategies.
