The City of Lakewood Youth Council is holding their first ever Youth Summit on Wednesday, April 12 at Clover Park High School from 1-5 p.m.
This is a half-day for students in the Clover Park School District and all middle and high school students are encouraged to attend. The goal of the summit is to create an environment where students will feel comfortable to freely give their opinions on the issues and solutions in four major focus areas; education in the middle and high school levels, applying for jobs and colleges, personal health and nutrition, and bullying. The Youth Council has identified these subjects as major issues for the youth in our community. Attendees will also qualify for community service hours for attending and participating in the summit.
The event will begin with a short general session explaining the goals for the day and the process that will be used to attain them. The attendees will then break into small groups to discuss the topic at that table. Lunch will be served to all participants during their rotation through the four focus areas. They will move among the four focus areas and will gather as one group at the close of the summit to vote on their top issues and solutions. A detailed report and presentation will be given to City Council at the first council meeting in June.
