The 1st Annual Billy Stocking Memorial Swim Meet held Saturday, March 25 was a great success. The event was sanctioned by the Washington State Special Olympics and supported by a legion of local volunteers.
The swim meet was sponsored by John Korsmo Construction, Inc. of Lakewood through its Helping Hands Community Service Team.
Nearly 100 Special Olympian swimmers representing the North Kitsap Vikings, the Peninsula Killer Wales and the Lakewood YMCA teams competed at the event held at the Clover Park Swimming Complex in Lakewood. In addition to volunteers from Korsmo Construction, a large group from the Clover Park High School Junior ROTC and many individual community volunteers contributed to the success.
The event was held to honor Billy Stocking a former Mariner Moose and Seattle Seadogs mascot who spent considerable time helping and entertaining Special Olympians. Stocking was killed in an automobile accident in January 2005. He was the son of Korsmo Construction Superintendent Will Stocking.
