Future of Fort Steilacoom Golf Course
Pierce County Parks is hosting a community workshop on the future of Fort Steilacoom Golf Course. The workshop is Thursday, March 30 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Lakewood Community Center, 9112 Lakewood Drive SW. For more information call 798-4176.
Lakewood hosts meeting on Underage Drinking
As reported March 17, the city of Lakewood is hosting an underage drinking prevention town hall at Clover Park High School on March 28 from 5-7:30 pm.
Some Important Facts:
Ten percent of 9-to-10 year-olds say that they already have started drinking alcohol.
By the time youth reach 8th grade, 41% have had at least one drink, and almost 20% report having been “drunk.”
Underage alcohol use is more likely to kill young people than all illegal drugs combined.
Demonstrated parental disapproval is the strongest influence on youthful alcohol use.
Lakewood Police support Special Olympics
Lakewood Police Department (LPD) will be sponsoring a garage sale June 17 and needs donations of good and useable items. Donations will be accepted at the Police Station. Proceeds to benefit Special Olympics.
LPD is hosting Torch Run
LPD is also looking for volunteers to participate in the Law Enforcement Torch Run June 2. Anyone interested should contact Rick Wade, 606-5729.
