Massive crash! People trapped! 20 foot high flames! No its just training for the Lakewood Fire Recruit Class! As the 2006 recruit class nears graduation the heat gets turned up at the Washington State Fire Training facility at North Bend.
Recruits from Lakewood, Gig Harbor, and Graham trained last week with live fire, learning the finer points of fire control and survival on the fire ground. The final weeks of training have pushed these fire fighters as they worked with flammable liquids, propane fires and props that simulate car fires, warehouse fires and other dangerous situations that fire departments face. Lakewood Fire has put together a top notice program designed to make sure fire fighters receive the foundation that will launch them into a long and safe career. “We have received several inquiries asking how to get recruits into the next class” says Lakewood Training Lieutenant Norton. “It seems the word of a quality program is getting out”.
