The students are taking part in the 2006 Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, the 39th event being held at the University of Idaho at Moscow. The event is set for Feb. 22-25.
Each February, thousands of college, high school junior high and elementary school students from around the U.S. and Canada mingle with some of the world’s greatest jazz performers. Students take part in vocal and instrumental adjudicated performances, and attend concerts and workshops given by the jazz artists.
The festival has expanded from a one-day gathering in 1968 to the present four-day event. Approximately 14,000 students from more than 300 schools, plus teachers, parents, supporters and friends are expected to take part.
