A chalet style picnic shelter will be erected at Fort Steilacoom Park this
summer. It will be located west of the playground that was built last summer. Brian Knutson, president of the Rotary Club of Clover Park, said his 45-member club is raising more than $75,000 needed to complete the project.
The 30-by-44-foot shelter will feature barbecue pits, a couple of water faucets and
electricity. The shelter will be built of steel tubing with metal roof and
concrete slab floor. Permanent picnic tables and trash cans are also expected
to be included in the project.
Clover Park Rotary Club raises funds through a rose sale and other projects.
In addition, the club is seeking grants from community foundations and welcomes individual donations. This is a similar system to that which was utilized by the Lakewood Rotary Club when it coordinated the construction of
the playground last summer.
Fundraising is now underway and plans are to have the construction completed by the end of June which coincides with the fiscal year of the Rotary Club.
