Venture crew 53 from the Pacific Harbors Council of Boy Scouts of America is headed for Peru on a mission to promote cultural and historic awareness, provide literacy and educational materials and foster international goodwill by creating a bond between the youth of Lakewood, Cusco Peru and the neighboring villages.
As part of this program, the Venture crew will be collecting more than 500 pounds of school supplies and clothing to distribute to elementary schools in Cusco area. In addition, the Crew is raising funds to purchase and plant 1,000 trees in the Cusco area and will also be delivering children’s books to a new library in a neighboring village.
The trip is planed for July 25-Aug.12 and will include a visit to the ancient village of Machu Picchu.
The Venture program is for young boys and girls from 14 through 20 years of age. This scout program puts crews together based on interests and includes such activities as public service, climbing, boating, hiking, Scuba diving and just about any activity of interest to young men and women.
