Recently, Jeff Wilson, instructional facilitator at Evergreen Elementary School on Fort Lewis, was selected as the Lakewood Rotary Educator of the Month for January. Wilson has worked at Evergreen for nearly nine years. His dedication to educating both staff and students can be seen everywhere in the building.
Prior to working for Clover Park School District, Wilson taught in Houston, Texas for five years. He started at Evergreen as an art specialist and family support coordinator.
Wilson is a graduate of Purdue University in Indiana.
As an instructional facilitator, Wilson has the opportunity to instruct fellow teachers. He says that teaching, whether its kids or adults, is about helping people realize their potential.
“When you’ve been teaching for a while, your focus is so much on the kids that you have to take time to step back and look at yourself. That’s where I come in. I know how consuming the classroom can be. My goal is to help instructors improve their teaching skills,” said Wilson. “I really enjoy my job.”
His supervisors say he is an exceptional employee.
“Jeff Wilson is a creative, innovative and motivated individual,” said Gerry Grubs, Evergreen assistant principal. “He puts in much of his own time and resources to create the magic of Evergreen. He trains teachers, collects data, participates in committees and can always be counted on in a pinch.”
“Jeff is an outstanding instructional facilitator,” said Holly Shaffer, Evergreen Elementary principal. “He serves as a mentor and peer model for both new and experienced teachers. He is helping us all navigate the new and unfamiliar territory of State of the Art Instruction. Above all, Jeff gives his all to the students of Evergreen, donating both his time and money to ensure that Evergreen remains the "Happiest School on Earth,” said Shaffer. Wilson credits his success and longevity at Evergreen to the cohesive employee relations at the school.
“We have a great team here at Evergreen. That’s why I’ve been here for the long-haul. The staff is what holds us together,” he said.
