At its October 2005 board meeting, the Board of Steilacoom Historical School District No. 1 voted unanimously to ask district voters to approve renewal of the current four-year maintenance and operation levy. The M&O renewal election is scheduled for February 7, 2006.
Cost for the 2007-2010 M&O levy is $2.59 per $100,000 of assessed valuation.
Approval of this levy renews the district’s source of funding to continue operation of the its seven schools for the next four years.
Informational forums about the upcoming M&O levy election are scheduled on Anderson Island (Jan. 10, 11 and Feb. l), at DuPont (Chloe Clark Elementary) and in Steilacoom, (Pioneer Middle School) both on Jan. 17. (Mainland forums are sponsored by school PTAs).
Last May voters overwhelmingly approved the district’s second capital improvement bond. Approval of this construction bond enables the district to improve existing high school and elementary facilities and to construct a new middle school to house the district’s expanding student population.
