The Suburban Times is a fledgling product serving the populations of Lakewood, University Place, Steilacoom, DuPont and Fircrest with news that matters to the people who have invested their lives in these communities. To make this publication successful, it must have fresh material on a regular basis and we know there are some of you who can help us provide it. We’re looking for experienced writers who are either retired, or have extra time to contribute a story about their community every week to this publication. You don’t need to be a journalist, you just need to be able to string several sentences together in a readble, interesting style. English majors, teachers and professors are encouraged to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We’re also looking for students seeking to be journalists. We need teens and young adults who are already working at their school newspapers or on the staffs of the yearbook committee. We know you can compile useful information in a readable format that could be shared with the community at large. It doesn’t take much to forward those stories to us via email. Compensation may be meager at first, but as The Suburban Times grows so can the rewards.
We need people who follow high school sports and bring cameras to the games. Articles don’t have to be long and involved, just concise bits of news that will appeal to your neighbors in the five communities. News about upcoming concerts, dances or events hosted by the science club would fit our style of community reporting as well.
We also need people interested in writing business articles about the many fine companies that keep our local economies above water each and every year.
Please contact Publisher Ben Sclair at email@example.com with a brief history of your writing experience and some thoughts on what you might be able to provide terms of regular articles.
