On Nov. 7 the University Place City Council approved a contract with Gray & Osborne, Inc., in the amount of $47,900 to design 1,600 lineal feet of curbs, gutters, sidewalks, streetlights and storm drains on Hanna Pierce Road. Money for the project will come from the city’s Neighborhood Capital Improvement Program.
The proposed improvements would be built on the west side of the road where storm water currently forms ponds because the system designed to collect it was built in pieces and never properly tied together. When complete, the project will improve safety for pedestrians using the road and it will efficiently collect and move storm water into the city’s treatment system.
The project will also reduce the city’s cost to repair and maintain the road in a safe condition. Design work is expected to take five months. The city will then solicit bids for construction of the project as funds allow. A Pierce County Community Development Block Grant of approximately $40,000 will pay for construction of the streetlights associated with the project.
