Lakewood police broke up a car-theft ring last week, arresting two people and recovering one stolen car from the Starlite Theater on South Tacoma Way and then another stolen car, several stolen engines and other car parts from a storage unit in Tacoma. Officers first got wind of the thieves when a LoJack car alarm alert sent an inaudible signal out from a transmitter attached to a car that had been reported stolen.
The alarm was traced to the car by a Lakewood police cruiser equipped with a LoJack tracking device. Two people standing near the car claimed to own it and were immediately arrested. Further investigation led officers to obtain a search warrant for the Tacoma storage unit where they found the second car and the car parts. Police were able to generate several more investigative leads during the course of their search.
Police were unable to provide more information on this case at this time as it is an ongoing investigation.
