Lakewood’s police force may soon have a place to call home. It’s a 2.75 acre plot of empty land next to the Lakewood Industrial Park on Lakewood Drive SW right now, but with some vision and money it will become a hub of law enforcement activity for the city of 60,000.
The 55-officer police force is currently housed in a rented building that served as the detatchment office when the city was served by the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department. The building is too small for the force’s needs and starting from scratch with a new building will allow the city to give the force needed technological tools to keep up with their crime fighting needs. The city signed closing papers on the property on Aug. 9. There is no word as to when construction of a building might start.
