What a delightful surprise this past Sunday (Dec. 4) to listen to a Lakewood resident on NPR (National Public Radio–KNKX) correctly solve the questions.
Lakewood writer Val Dumond, author of many books, including a Lakewood history, was the winner of the previous week’s puzzle. NY Times Puzzle master Will Shortz challenged Val to unscramble names of several world leaders. Of course, she knew them all.
Several years ago when Val’s local writing group (they met at Lakewood’s Barnes & Noble) participated in writing workshops on Anderson Island, the writers-in-training gathered around a large oak table in the Anderson House Kitchen at Oro Bay, listening to that early Sunday morning program.
Val, who currently is hosting a writing competition (details on her website www.valdumond.com) encourages writers to write the longest single sentence story. Now, there’s a challenge.
