Everyone’s A Kid Day: Honoring Our Military Children, set for February 10

The children of military personnel deserve to be honored after nearly 12 years of constant war, said organizers of an event designed to recognize these kids for their sacrifices to the nation.
“Most of the local kids from the bases have been growing up, passing major milestones, winning little league games and participating in school concerts, basically having their ups and downs while one or two of the most important people in their lives, their dads or moms, have been deployed,” said Ken Swarner, the organizer of Everyone’s A Kid Day: Honoring Our Military Children, set for February 10 in Tacoma.  “And they’ve done this a lot more than just once, with the added stress that their dads and moms have been in dangerous places.”
Swarner, publisher of The Ranger and NW Airlifter newspapers, along with an army of local businesses including event sponsor Seattle Childrens Hospital, have designed February’s event to show local military families that the sacrifices their kids make have not gone unnoticed.
“These kids didn’t chose to be a part of a military family, but they have shouldered more than their fair share of the hardships with unwavering courage,” Swarner said.  “We are so proud of them, and we want to give them a party so they know how much we appreciate what they do everyday.”
The event takes place at the STAR Center from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Open house format, families will be treated to activities and games, as well as entertainment, snacks and raffles – all for no charge.  Local military families, active, Guard and reserve, need to RSVP at northwestmilitary.com, plus show a valid military ID at one of the entrances available that day to greatly reduce the number of entry lines.

Activities include five large sized inflatable bouncy houses and slides, a 4-D theater, mobile video gaming trucks, a graffiti photo wall, photo booth, ropes course, jungle gyms, tiny tot room, arcade games, toy give-aways, raffles including free ski tickets, and so much more.

If you would like to donate prizes, services, volunteer or sponsor a booth at the event, please email Swarner at publisher@ftlewisranger.com.
Food will be available for purchase at the event.
