LAKEWOOD, WA – After recognizing Doug Richardson’s 17 years of service, the Lakewood Council appointed Helen McGovern to fill the final ten months of his term. Mr. Richardson left the City Council in mid-January to serve on the Pierce County Council. Ms. McGovern will be formally sworn in to her new role prior to the Council’s next meeting on Monday, February 11.
Ms. McGovern previously served on the Council from 2001-2009, including two years of service as deputy mayor. She is a 26-year resident of Lakewood and served as co-chair of the Lakewood incorporation effort. Ms. McGovern has been involved in a variety of civic organizations such as the Clover Park High School PTSA, Partners for Parks, Clover Park Rotary, the City’s Redevelopment Advisory Board, and Lakewood Citizens for Fire Protection.
Ms. McGovern currently serves as the Executive Director for the Emergency Food Network. Prior to assuming that role in 2009, she worked in the commercial real estate industry.
